Our three-hour long bicycle tour in the morning takes you to the Zakir Hussain Rose Garden (Asia’s biggest rose garden), the Leisure Valley, the world renowned Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh Golf Club and Manimajra fort. The trail starts at the Rose Garden and traverses through Leisure Valley before we take a right and ride along the Sukhna Path to reach the lake. After spending some time at the lake, we head towards the Chandigarh Golf Club and then to the Garden of Silence located at the regulator end of the Sukhna Lake.
Thanks to the bicycle, we will pass through a tiny village before we head towards the Manimajra fort. Manimajra, an old town located within the periphery of Chandigarh, will also see you cycling in the by-lanes of the local market and fort. Breakfast will be served here before we head back to the Rose Garden. The tour will be assisted by two English speaking guides, who will ride along with you and you will be given cruiser bikes.
With Foodtrailsindia, we want you to see the City Beautiful, as Chandigarh is fondly called, on bicycles. With its dedicated bicycle lanes and wide roads, the city offers you the opportunity to explore it on a bicycle. Designed by French architect Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris, better known as Le Corbusier, in 1951; Chandigarh has been divided into sectors with each sector being 800 meters by 1200 meters. Sprinkled amongst these sectors are many architectural wonders designed by Corbusier. Be it the Secretariat, the High Court building, the various parks (which constitute more than 1000 acres in the city) or the lake; the city offers plenty in terms of architectural splendour, for a tourist to marvel at.
The City Beautiful boasts of separate bicycle lanes (called V8's) in most of its parts. And what better way can there be to see this meticulously planned city than to ride a bicycle on these very lanes.
